High Protein Bedtime Snack

by Mark McManus on August 28, 2008

high protein snackOk, this may seem a little obvious to some of you but….

Your Protein powder can make a neat little bedtime snack.

You can make a nice little protein pudding for bedtime by simply adding a small amount of milk or cream & water.

Just throw around 40 grams of protein powder into a bowl and slowly add the liquid of your choice – I like natural yogurt like ‘Total’. Keep mixing until you get a thick, sticky consistency.

In my last article I mentioned that you could take 2 grams of L-glutamine at bedtime to increase growth hormone through the night. You can easily add glutamine to this snack for the perfect nighttime treat.

It’s low carb and low fat so it’s suitable for pretty much everyone :)

Enjoy it!

Mark, I love you’re 5 day workout plan…I’ve been doing it for about 2 weeks now and my body feels great. I have a question tho..How do I “cut” my muscles? For example, my biceps are getting much larger, but I don’t see much more definition..what do I need to do?

I am kinda new to your website and like what you do with it. I made the pizza with the cheese crust and it was great. However, I would like to mention how dissapointed I was with this protein snack. I mixed half and half with ON double chocolate protein and it looked like awesome choco pudding but it tasted terrible and it made my mouth instantly dry. I was wondering if you really like it or just put it up as a supplement to gaining muscle program. Please explain.

Thanks for this idea, I really like it! I mixed heavy whipping cream with 2 scoops of vanilla whey, and added in some vanilla extract and ground cinnamon, and it came out nicely!

Mark,

I tried the High Protein Bedtime Snack and loved it. I added 1/2 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder because my chocolate whey is not chocolately enough for my taste. It did the trick in satisfying that late night snack attack and this snack is good for my muscles! Thanks!

Hey Mark, I was just wondering what type of L Glutamine you use, I want to get it ASAP but not sure which brand to get. Thanks in advance. Also thanks for the S-curl excersize those things killed me, but I’m seeing major results.

Mark, I have been doing some reading regarding how whey protein causes insulin spikes. I have also looked up ceasen protein and the carbohydrate numbers are very low.

Your thoughts?

@Antonio,
Yes, whey will cause a spike but not as pronounced as simple carbs.
The point is that you should get your protein from food and leave the whey for post-workout when a rise in insulin isn’t a bad thing.
Casein is slower-digesting and would be good at night but I still prefer food.

I did this with natural yogurt and chocolate myofusion.

result was a creamy, tasty cheesecake like concotion.

I was only planning to have this before bed. Now I’m taking it twice because it is so easy to prepare and tastes so darn good.

just remember to use a big bowl to mix the yougurt and powder, otherwise you might get powder all over the place.

thanks mark for the recipe and the solid site.

cheers
