Homemade Protein Bar Recipe

Homemade Protein Bar RecipeWant a high protein snack that almost tastes like a snickers?
This is my own homemade protein bar recipe.

I call it the ‘3 Ingredient Protein Bar‘ and it rules!!

It’s quick, simple and tastes great! Getting a quick blast of protein has never been easier or tastier for the natural bodybuilder.

Here’s your ingredients:

  1. Natural Nut Butter of your choice - I like hazelnut butter as it’s lowest in carbs
  2. Heavy/Double Cream
  3. Whey Protein - The flavor of your choice.

Personally I think chocolate whey is great with this. The hazelnut and chocolate flavors go so well together.
Use chocolate whey and crunchy peanut butter for the snickers taste.
Also you can add a teaspoon or two of granulated splenda to sweeten it a little.

Watch the video and the instructions are below:

Instructions:

  1. Put 50 grams of nut butter and 25 grams of whey protein into a bowl
  2. Mix a little until dry and clumpy
  3. Add 40ml of heavy cream. Now it magically smooths out quickly when mixed
  4. Take out of bowl and shape into a bar

Enjoy it!

I take these with me if I’m going somewhere that won’t have healthy food options.

In fact, just recently I had to attend an all-day meeting in a hotel for my job. At break, while everyone was getting stuck into the free scones and tea, I was munching on my homemade protein bar - I swear some of my colleagues think I’m obsessed!
Maybe I am, but it works and I feel great :)

This is similar to the recipe for protein chew bars in Total Six Pack Abs which is made with Peanut Butter.
Enjoy this one guys!

Your buddy,

Mark McManus

I’m horribly allergic to nuts….especially the ones used to make various butters. Any suggested alternatives?

I’m always apprehensive about these body building diets because there’s often a focus on nuts, really sucks for me.

Hey Mark, as soon as I saw this post, I made my own protein bars. I’ve been searching around for good recipes, and I have to say, this one is excellent. It’s easy, fast, and tastes great. Good job.

BTW - I used half and half and peanut butter for mine and they turned out good. I live in the states and I can’t find double cream anywhere. Do you know if it’s the same thing as heavy whipping cream?

  3. Darin Says:

Martin, Heavy whipping cream is the USA equivalent to double cream.

  4. RJ Says:

Hey Mark, noticed that the double cream you used in the video is from Tesco - so you must be in the UK. Any particular places you get your hazelnut or other nut butters (apart from peanut) from?

  5. Mark McManus Says:

I used to get them in tesco too but now get them online as they don’t stock them anymore. Do a search for meridian nut butters,

I might stop by the store on the way home and get some heavy whipping cream so I can make this. There are so many things you can put in a protein bar, I never even thought of using cream.

Here’s another recipe I made that uses oats:

Hi Mark I was so excited to see this recipe after spending so much money on protein bars! I made it the other day and made it x 4 then rolled into little balls and put in the freezer. Now I just take out a little protein ball each day and it is a yummy snack!! Thanks for your great website as well. Very inspirational!
